How YOU Can Help!
Kofi Annan said it best when he said,“If our hopes of building a better and safer world are to become more than wishful thinking, we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever.” The Catch-A-Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby is an event to inspire children to be more active outdoors; to show children that in a world that is becoming overrun with drugs, there are other things to do. This is why our motto is so important to us: "Get Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs". During the CAR, we give away outdoor related prizes such as tents, sleeping bags, fishing poles, bikes, etc.. Our organization is always looking for new volunteers. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities and want to make your community a better and safer place, you may contact up at 270-343-3797 and ask for Lisa.
Why should you make a donation? We rely on people like you to keep us going. Did you know, the 5 fishing derbies at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery are NOT funded by the Government or your tax dollars? The derbies are possible because businesses and individuals (local and non-local) donate. Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery has an active Fishing Derby Committee who gets together and go out to seek donations. To put things into perspective: the Catch-A-Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby itself costs about $20,000... the other 4 derbies cost $20,000 combined. That is a minimum of $40,000 a year for the derbies alone. We are always discussing new ideas and ways to make the derbies more eco-friendly, because they do produce a lot of waste, but that also costs money.
If everyone in Russell County donated a single Quarter to the hatchery, the hatchery would receive roughly $4,415.50 in donations. If everyone in the surrounding counties (Adair, Pulaski, Wayne, and Cumberland) donated a single Quarter to the hatchery, the hatchery would receive roughly $27,508! That is quite the impact!
